Gore makes Sunday Times list

Creative technologies firm achieves 13th place in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For list

W.L. Gore & Associates has been ranked 13th amongst the 100 Best Companies to Work For by The Sunday Times.

Companies are ranked on scores derived from a survey of employees, with eight factors, My Manager, My Company, My Team, Giving Something Back, Wellbeing, Fair Deal and Personal Growth scored.

Gore was ranked 4th for My Company, 6th for Personal Growth and 12th for Giving Something Back. This placed it 13th amongst UK companies, as well as being the highest placed Scottish company for the eighth year in a row. Overall, it was ranked 7th in 2010, 8th in 2009, 11th in 2008 and 1st in 2007.

Gore also featured in the overall Top 5 in categories including: Least Bored at Work, Most Stimulating Place to Work, Best for Personal Growth, Proud to be Here and Love working for the Company. Gore associates were also rated the 6th Least Exhausted of all companies of the list.

Staff at Gore are reported to have said the company makes a different to the world (80 per cent), they are proud to work there (87 per cent), they feel they can make a difference in the organisation (83 per cent) and they can make a valuable contribution to its success (84 per cent). Some 80 per cent feel they have a positive future at Gore, while 70 per cent say there are plenty of opportunities to learn and grow.

Gore’s entry in the list read: “Innovation, creativity and teamwork keep staff at W.L. Gore & Associates motivated and satisfied. Employees love their job so much, they wouldn’t leave tomorrow even if they were offered another job.”

Gore UK associate Bob Doak said: “Gore’s continued presence high up on the Best Companies list is testament not only to our famous unique leadership structure but also to the commitment and dedication of our associates who, every day, live and breathe the values that make Gore a great place to work.”

Rodger Pheely, an associate in Dundee, added: “The innovation that results in our world leading products comes from the great people in our company. Our corporate philosophy recognises that it is the associates’ role in developing products and systems that makes such a huge contribution to the company’s success globally.”

Commercial radio broadcaster UKRD Group, a new entry, topped the list, which was published in The Sunday Times on March 6. A record of 919 companies have participated for inclusion on the 100 Best Companies to Work For, 25 Best Big Companies to Work For, 100 Best Small Companies to Work For and 100 Best Places to Work in the Public and Charity Sectors lists in 2011.
