Harrington and Wilson renew vows

Ending months of speculation, Padraig Harrington has renewed his contract with Wilson Golf to compete on Tour playing with Wilson Staff clubs.
Despite receiving rich offers from rival brands that Wilson could not match, the three-time major winner extended a relationship with the company that started in 1998.
Over the past decade, Ireland’s Harrington has formed a strong bond with the Wilson brand and the people within, and combined with his close involvement in Wilson Staff’s R&D and his satisfaction with the clubs, his undisclosed fees became a secondary factor in his decision.
“Wilson is more than just a brand name,” adds Harrington, 37, who has risen from 78th in the world to fifth since 1998. “It’s a unique mixture of golfing heritage and modern R&D expertise that combines to produce outstanding clubs. I love being part of a tradition that includes the likes of [Sam] Snead and [Gene] Sarazen.”
Tim Clarke, General Manager of Wilson Golf said: “This is a great day for Wilson Golf and its Wilson Staff brand. To have retained Padraig as our main golf ambassador gives everyone associated with the company and our customers a tremendous boost and confidence in the future.
“On the back of three Major wins in the past 15 months, it was not the ideal time to be re-negotiating a new contract. As the hottest golfer playing right now, Padraig was obviously going to attract a lot of interest from rival brands, but he was always looking at the bigger picture and what would help him achieve his next goals. So he decided that Wilson Staff clubs are the ones he wants to keep using. It’s a fearsome combination and one we hope will take Wilson Staff irons beyond the 61 Major wins.”
