Langdon steps down as Gelert MD

Alastair Langdon MBE, Managing Director of GELERT Ltd and Group Companies, has announced today he will be standing down as Managing Director and appointing Mick Welden as his successor. Alastair will remain as Chairman of the Group and maintain an active role in the management team.
Mick has been with the company for over almost 10 years and over the past five years in the role of Group Finance Director.His appointment as Managing Director of the Group will become effective from 1st November 2007.

Alastair and family set up the company over 30 years ago, trading out of a small shed in Bryncir.He has since built a very successful international business with a subsidiary in Holland which services the European Market and an office in Shanghai controlling sourcing arrangements and quality control out of the Far East. The group now employs over 150 people with a turnover in excess of £20 million.

In 1995 Alastair received an MBE in recognition of his efforts in creating employment in the local community within North Wales .He is extremely highly respected by all within the Outdoor Industry both in the UK and Asia.

Alastair said: “As we approach this next exciting phase of the group’s plans, it is the right time for Mick to drive the business forward. This appointment will ensure that we have the energy, focus and direction regarding the development and implementation of our exciting medium and long term plans.”

He added:“Having worked closely with Mick over the last five years, he has already made a significant contribution to both the Group’s success and along with the rest of the Board of Directors of Gelert Ltd in formulating the business strategy for the future. I am very confident that he will do an excellent job in guiding the group through its next phase of ambitious growth plans.

“I have no intentions of retiring and will still continue to play a very active role in the group working alongside Mick and co-Directors.”

Mick stated “It was a huge honour to be asked by Alastair to take over the day to day control of running the Group that he has successfully owned and managed for the past 30 years. I have the utmost admiration for Alastair’s achievements and have learnt a tremendous amount from working closely with him over the last five years.He has an incredible amount of energy that he passes on to those he works with and there is an enormous commitment by everybody in the business to see the company grow from strength to strength.

There are some huge challenges ahead of us to firmly cement Gelert as the number one Family Outdoor Brand in the UK and European markets. I am by nature a very determined individual and with the strong team we have at Gelert, I have no doubt that we will achieve our goals.

We will be investing further in quality personnel to assist in taking us forward and implementing the plans we have set out and there will be a continued focus on constantly improving the quality of our product offering on both the Camping and Apparel side of the business.
