Multimat expands into US

Camping mat specialist Multimat has expanded into the North American market with an exclusive distribution deal expected to be worth around $700,000.
South Wales-based Multimat has signed a contract with ProForce Equipment, Inc giving them exclusive rights to sell its products in the USA and Canada for the next three years.
The products ProForce is initially stocking are the Adventure, All Seasons and Expedition ranges of self-inflating mattresses and a self-inflating pillow. They are being marketed as “self-inflating sleeping mats for the military professional” to target the huge military-oriented American market where more self-inflating mats are sold each year than in the whole of Europe.
The Adventure range was initially made to the specifications of the Ministry of Defence and used by the British Army. New Superlite versions based on the same designs were launched this year alongside the 3 Seasons range. Mats from the Expedition range are regularly used by teams in extreme conditions including last year’s Caudwell Xtreme Everest expedition.
ProForce Equipment is a Miami-based company specialising in the import and distribution of military and outdoor equipment to military personnel, campers and backpackers. A website,  www.multimatusa.com has already been set up to help sell their new product range.

The first shipment, worth $100,000 to Multimat, has already been sent to the USA. ProForce Equipment Inc expects their annual requirement to grow three-to-four-fold in the next three years.
