TEKO is delighted to announce it is a winner in the ‘Sustainable Innovations’ category at the 10th annual International OutDoor Industry Awards held in Germany this week for its new ‘REGENERATE ME’ Super Cushion multi-sport sock.
TEKO’s Super Cushion sock is constructed with a microfiber which has been specially developed in conjunction with nylon regenerator Econyl and can be 100% recycled. The award recognises TEKO’s innovative approach to a circular economy and the Econyl regeneration process.
TEKO’s sock was chosen by an expert panel of six international judges made up of outdoor experts from different fields, who reviewed 329 entries during an intensive two-day evaluation process. 39 elite products were chosen to receive an OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD.
Owner of TEKO, Gordon Fraser said: “This is superb recognition for TEKO and not only endorses the brand within the European market, but internationally. We are extremely proud to have been given a coveted OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD amongst so many impressive contenders.
“We have been steadily building the TEKO brand and being recognised for the quality, performance and strong eco credentials of our products along the way. We pride ourselves on the use of renewable and sustainable energy resources and materials and our latest ‘REGENERATE ME’ project is the next step in our continuing mission to make our products as eco-friendly as possible.”
One of the six judges, EOG General Secretary Mark Held comments: “We’ve witnessed an impressive number of innovations this year in the tenth round of the OutDoor Industry Award. In particular, we’re seeing companies getting better and better at combining innovative technology with good design and high functionality in their products, while increasingly integrating sustainable concepts. These strong combinations of different aspects are producing new levels of quality.”
New for 2016, TEKO has designed and produced two special, very distinctive socks for the project using the Ocean Blue yarn colour as an accent yarn to represent where the yarns came from and the infinity icon to represent the Econyl regeneration process. The Marathon Super Cushion Socks are constructed with 100% regenerated polyamide from rescued fishing nets, which are regenerated in the Econyl plant; this is a world first.
The result is super eco-friendly socks that offer superior cushioning, breathability and durability that at the end-of-life can be regenerated and new TEKO socks recreated. This is a true circular process, which saves on waste, energy and pollution and everyone will be able to participate.
Over the course of the summer trade shows TEKO will be asking retailers and shop staff to participate in the pilot ‘REGENERATE ME’ project by asking them to commit to returning the socks after a year of use and exchanging them for another pair. The original pair will then be put into the ECONYL regeneration process and new virgin yarns will be produced to make new socks.
