The North Face redesigns sleeping for women

The only thing worse than getting a bad night’s sleep because you are cold is getting a bad night’s sleep because your sleeping bag is shaped and insulated to accommodate a man. For too long, women have been suffering as their man snores away happily in the Land of Nod. Not any more! The redesign of the women’s versions of both the Cat’s Meow and the Blue Kazoo have ensured that the bags are cut to better fit the female form and designed for a woman’s temperature distinctions.
The Women’s Cat’s Meow is a synthetic highly compressible sleeping bag designed for three season winter mountaineering. Featuring an overlapping shingle construction for efficiency and filled with Climashield Prism synthetic insulation, the bag is lined with a silken interior for softness and breathability. The zipper column features a welded no-snag stiffener and boasts a full-length draft protection tube. For temperature control, there is an adjustable, synthetic fill draft collar with a soft microfleece cord tunnel, as well as a welded, reinforced Velcro flap to keep you snug down to minus 7ºC. Night time fine-tuning is no problem with a one-hand pull cord for hood adjustments, glow-in-the-dark zipper pull, and chest level watch pocket. Specifically for women, the bag has a narrower cut in the shoulders, is shorter in length and wider at the hips and offers increased insulation in the hood, handwarmer pocket and footbox. Featuring a unique trapezoidal baffle system, to maintain a constant baffle volume and prevent cold spots, the Women’s Blue Kazoo is a three-season down sleeping bag stuffed with plush 600-fill Eastern European goose down. Again featuring a unique women’s fit in the shoulder, hip and length and with extra insulation in specific areas, the bag is toasty down to -10ºC, and features a seven chamber sculpted hood, a down-filled draft tube and face comfort tube with enhanced internal heat trap. Climashield Prism pads in compression zones such as the head, torso and feet provide up to 13 per cent greater thermal efficiency by creating an insulating buffer between the sleeper and the ground. The Blue Kazoo earns extra Brownie Points for the vaulted ergonomic footbox which ensures no more cramped and tangled toes, sleeping pad retention loops, glow-in-the-dark zipper pull, no-snag bonded stiffener in the zipper column and bonded watch pocket with water resistant zipper.
Eadaoin Hutchinson, Marketing Controller for The North Face commented: “Women specific footwear and clothing has been very much the norm in the outdoor industry for many years now, but we are very excited to be able to offer such a well-tailored and thermally efficient sleeping partner for the fairer sex!”
