Bristol based Wilderness Lectures is delighted to announce a new partnership with outdoor equipment supplier Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports.

Wilderness Lectures was established in 1987 by Bristol mountaineers Steve Berry and Steve Marriott who wanted to bring to Bristol some top outdoor activity lectures; they were subsequently joined by cavers Dick Willis and John Bracey. Thirty years later Wilderness offers a core programme of 12 talks during its annual winter series as well as events such as its recent fundraisers in aid of the Nepal earthquake victims,  the Jonathan Conville Mountaineering Trust and Community Action Nepal.

In those 30 years, Wilderness has hosted speakers a wide spectrum of adventures from the world famous, such as mountaineers Sir Chris Bonington and Doug Scott, to those who are almost unknown outside their own field.  Talks have covered subjects from high altitude mountaineering to swimming the length of the world’s great rivers, from cycling round the world on a penny-farthing bicycle to an evening with Dervla Murphy.

Ellis Brigham Mountain Sport, with its network of 24 stores including one in Whiteladies Road, Bristol, has been a strong supporter of the fundraising events organised by Wilderness in recent years.

Dick Willis said, “Wilderness Lectures offers a programme of entertaining, inspiring talks to our audience of active and armchair adventurers of all ages. Ellis Brigham is a local supplier of high-quality equipment to those who want to pursue their own adventures. Our new partnership is a natural fit and we look forward to working together to promote adventure of all types.”

Mark Brigham, Marketing Director of Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports says, “over the years, the lecture series has successfully inspired generations of explorers to pursue their passion for outdoor adventures. Our support of Wilderness Lectures helps ensure we can continue to inspire people by bringing the best adventurers to Bristol.”
