Wilson Golf has launched the Wilson Staff FG Tour forged irons, which are designed to combine classic looks with the latest cavity technology for the better player.
The new clubs are based on the old FG17 irons that were designed by Bob Mendrella, and the FG Tour irons have a similar clubhead shape, precision forged from mild carbon steel. The clubheads have been made with a thin top line, wide sole and deep cavity for a lower centre of gravity, while a ‘minimal offset’ is intended to aid workability.
“The FG Tour irons have a lot to live up to given Wilson’s illustrious history, but the recent performance of Ricky Barnes in the US Open underlines the outstanding pedigree of the clubs,” said Doug Wright, Business Director of Wilson Golf in Europe, in reference to Barnes’ record-breaking 132, eight under par, after 36 holes at Bethpage. “These irons have already performed brilliantly on Tour and we are confident they will be just as popular with good amateur players who appreciate quality clubs.”
The FG Tour irons come fitted with Lamkin Crossline grips and Dynamic Gold shafts. Available this month, a set from 4-iron to PW comes with an RRP of £549.
